THE FRENCH PRESIDENTS' CULINARY TASTES
Charles De Gaulle:
Loyal to his french tastes, the great president swore only by filet of beef and raspberry macaroons.
Pompidou:
The President had landed tastes:
the Auvergne pork hotpot, stuffed
cabbage and stuffed bass, the fennel
soufflé turbot and a grilled sole in the evening.
Valery Giscard d'Estaing:
He gave his name to a truffle soup, the « VGE soup » and was fond of profiteroles.
Mitterand:
Was totally indifferent to the culinary scenes. He adored foie gras and seafood: "A big pot of caviar was often taking center stage next to a smoked salmon dish (...) the guests were asked to eat it without restraint."
Chirac:
Used to like a lot Chinese food… He has been the biggest eater president of the fifth republic. Indeed, the french president was devoured more than 6 meals a day, which were mostly hight calorific local produced dishes. Contrary to the public opinion, he do not like calf's head.
Sarkozy:
He made a real gastronomic rupture by banishing the cheese at official meals at the Élysée. The french president was eating like a bird, preferred fish to meat and loved lightweight Italian specialties.
Holland
François Hollande hates artichokes, and as a left president, he chose to banish truffles and caviar at the Elysée.
Of a gourmand nature, he loves pastries and particularly the kouign amann.
